Keynote Presentations

Friday: Soaked in Bleach: The Kurt Cobain Case  
Tom Grant, former police detective and private investigator hired by Courtney Love to find her missing husband, Nirvana's lead singer Kurt Cobain, just days before his death.

The presentation will feature a question and answer session regarding the controversial documentary directed by Benjamin Statler entitled, Soaked in Bleach, based on the events leading up to the death of Kurt Cobain from the perspective of Tom Grant, former Police Chief Norm Stamper and others interviewed in the documentary. Saturday: Social Media: The new face of evidence in legal investigations with Ian Tausig & Brian Kramer, J.D.
Brian and Ian will help attendees navigate a host of practical and legal issues regarding social media investigations, and using content from social media platforms as evidence in legal proceedings, including:

  • Working with counsel to efficiently identify issues within the case, and where to start your search
  • Investigative techniques on some of the commonly used platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter
  • Social media forensics, specialized software, and the metadata beyond a screenshot
  • Legal and evididutiary issues with social media content
  • Presentation of social media evidence, and the importance of expert testimony
  • Case Study: Michelle Ghent v Terrence Howard; and how social media evidence with expert testimony played a pivotal role in obtaining a favorable ruling

Brian Kramer is certified by the California Board of Legal Specialization as a family law specialist, has been recognized as a Super Lawyer in the practice of family law, and he is widely regarded to be one of the top divorce attorneys among his class of peers in Los Angeles. In recognition of some of the outstanding results he has secured for his clients, Brian’s family law practice has been the subject of both local and national news coverage. Most recently and notably, Brian successfully worked to vacate a large spousal support judgment against academy award nominee, actor Terrence Howard.

Ian Tausig is a licensed private investigator and the President of Tausig & Associates, a full-service professional investigation agency which specializes in providing litigation support and legal investigation services to law firms and insurance carriers throughout California. Ian is a former law enforcement professional, establishing his agency in 2013. He is a board certified Social Media Intelligence Expert, as well as a subject matter expert and court-testified expert witness in the field of social media investigative techniques, and the authenticity of social media evidence.

CALI Golf Tournament

altCALI Golf Tournament $85 (Tournament and Lunch)

Please register in advance (see Golf registration button on the registration form or call the CALI office to add the tournament to your registration).

Golfers, please note the following:

  • If you need a ride to the golf course the hotel will provide transportation to and from the golf course
  • Sign-in will begin at 7:30am on June 9th in front of the pro-shop, you will receive your meal ticket at this time. (Golf Tournament Facilitator, Chad Ragan will have these as well as the sign-in sheets on-site.)
  • There is a driving range and putting green next to the pro shop for those of you who want to practice before your tee time
  • The tournament format will be a four person team, best ball, with each team member required to use three drives and three putts
  • At approximately 8:25am, we would like everyone present for a group picture prior to the tournament starting
  • First scheduled tee time is 8:45am
  • If you need rental clubs please contact CALI at [email protected] prior to noon on June 8 so that they will be waiting for you upon your arrival to the course - Rentals are $20.00
